A computer is useless without an operating system. Microsoft Windows pretty much dominates the market because of it's ease of use and game compatibility. If you are looking for an inexpensive Internet machine or word processing you may want to give Linux a shot, it's free! We do not use retail Linux boxes but the freely downloaded ISO images. We charge $1 per CD which varies between distributions.

Home edition
Enhanced version of Windows designed for home users. Offers stability and compatibility with most Windows 9X applications. Built in basic CD-R support.

Professional edition
Offers multiprocessor support, back up features, advanced networking and file encryption.
Linux

A GNU Linux distribution that takes a little getting used to, but the apt-get updater is nice.

Gentoo Linux

An up and coming distribution that is source based and offers free upgrading using rsync. Lots of compiling so make sure you have a processor that can handle it. Prior Linux experience recommended.

Based off of RedHat and very easy to use. Some customizations present, these may affect stability. There is an upgrade subscription service. (Not free) RPM based distribution.

A very clean, quick, and stable tar based distribution. I recommend this for experienced Linux users.
